The Autumn Tag

Hello!

I found out about this tag from the lovely Jess who posted one on her blog. It looked like a lot of fun so today I'll be doing one here!

What's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/ Costa / Cafe Nero?
I don't really know the seasonal drinks from Costa and Cafe Nero but I'm definitely going to be trying them out this year! I love the salted caramel hot chocolate and also the peppermint hot chocolate (but I've only ever had it in America), I want to try the coffee variations this season, including the famous pumpkin spice latte and the gingerbread latte

Accessories - what do you opt for, scarves, boots or gloves?
I am a big fan of boots, they are a key item in my autumn wardrobe. River Island do some gorgeous ankle boots. I also love scarves but I don't really like wearing gloves!

Music - what's your favourite music to listen to?
My music taste isn't really seasonal until Christmas kicks in (then it's Michael Buble 24/7). However at the moment I'm really excited for Taylor Swift's new album , 1989!

Candles - what scents will you be burning this season?
I've never really been into scented candles, I like the idea of them, I've just never tried them! This year I'm going to try some, any recommendations for autumnal candles?

Perfume - What is your favourite scent for this time of year?
I don't wear perfume but I'm looking to buy one soon! Again leave recommendations in the comments please!

What do you love about autumn?
Such a hard choice! Probably the excuse to stay in all day with a book or the beautiful colours.

Favourite make up look?
It doesn't change much but I like to go with a darker lip, and if I'm feeling fancy, some gold tones on the eyes!

What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?
Warm drinks, wearing boots, woolly jumpers and eating pie!

See you soon!

Letter To My Future Self

Hello!

As I have recently turned 15, I've been thinking a lot about where I will be in 5 years time, when I'm 20. I've seen a few of these posts flying around and they've all been so lovely and interesting. So here is my letter to my 20 year old self!

Dear Hattie/Harriet

How are you? It's strange to think about myself as a 20 year old, especially when I still feel about 13! What are you doing right now? I assume you are at university by now, hopefully studying something like journalism? Do you still want to work in the BBC? Right now I'm really not sure what I'm going to end up doing! Do you have a job? Do you remember when you worked at Oxfam on Saturday afternoons? I've been doing that for a few weeks now and I'm really enjoying it!

Do you still have the same friends from school or are you with a completely different bunch? I hope you're still friends with Evie, Becca, Maizey and Téa, they are a really lovely people! I don't mean to be awkward but do you have a boyfriend? Remember when you swore you'd marry Troy Bolton? Well right now it's Connor Franta but I don't plan on snapping out of this phase anytime soon.

I hope you still act, it's one of the only hobbies you really threw yourself into. Did you get a main role in the school plays in 6th Form? Do you still define yourself as a bookworm? We both know how escapism is one of the best remedies. What are you reading right now? Right now I'm making my way through The Understudy by David Nicholls. Do you remember how long it took you to read Emma?

Do you still blog? It probably looks very different from the way it looks now! If not, then I have to ask why? Remember the joy you got from writing and how thrilled you were when you started to receive comments on it? You love the blogging community, why not dive back in again? It makes me sad to think that some of the things that make you happy now, won't be a part of your life in a few years.

Above all, I'm most interested in your happiness. I really hope you are content in your life, wherever you are, whoever you're with, none of it matters as long as you are happy. Remember all the inspirational quotes you had saved on your phone? Don't forget to follow those every once in a while. I feel like your mother, reminding you to eat healthily and don't give up on what you love! But seriously, this is 15 year old you reminding you to have a great life!

See you soon!

15 Things I've Learnt In 15 Years

Hello!

My birthday was on Friday so I am now 15! I don't even feel 14 so I really can't believe I've lived 15 years. It got me thinking, what have I actually learnt as a person throughout these years? I've never really done a personal post before so today I'm going to go through 15 things I've learnt in 15 years.

1) Hard work does pay off

2) Don't waste a whole year obsessing over a rubbish band (I'm talking Jedward here, but let's not get into that)

3)Don't believe everything you hear/read

4)A purple clown wig is not your signature style

5)Appreciate what you have now but be open to change

6)Make the effort to find that silver lining

7)Kindles and iPhones are very fragile

8)Don't fret over the small things

9)Leg warmers are not your signature style either

10)Life isn't going to be easy, but that's okay

11)Not everyone will understand you (and your love of wooden ducks) but that's okay too

12)Have a good life, you've only got one

13)Audrey Hepburn  has a lot of wisdom, so follow her advice

14)Don't change who you are, not for anyone

15)If you want to try something new (like starting a blog), go for it!

See you soon!

Birthday Pizza and Film Night - Before I Go To Sleep

Hello!

This Friday is my 15th birthday! So to celebrate, me and my friends went to see Before I Go To Sleep, then to Prezzo afterwards. I loved the film so I thought I'd do a little review here!

The film is about an amnesiac called Christine who wakes up each morning thinking she is still in her early twenties when in fact she is 40. She can store information for a day but it is erased during the night. Each morning she wakes to find she has a husband, Ben,  who patiently explains everything to her. Her amnesia was caused by an attack but nobody knows who did this to her, She is also seeing a Dr Nasch, who tells her that she has been keeping a video diary without Ben's knowledge. The story follows Christine as she tries to find out who attacked her and who she can trust.

All of my friends really enjoyed the film though we weren't sure what to expect. It gripped me throughout and definitely raised my pulse. I loved all the twists and turns of the plot. Nicole Kidman gave a really strong central performance as Christine and my perception of Colin Firth has completely changed! I think Mark Strong stole the show as Dr Nasch. I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend going to see it!

Afterwards we went to Prezzo for pizza, which was delicious! My friends got me a giant cookie from Millie's Cookies that said "Hattie Birthday!"

I had a wonderful time so thank you to my friends and family for making it so special!

See you soon!

Back To School Playlist

Hello!

One thing that helps me through  is music, whether I'm doing homework or waiting for the bus. I think life is more enjoyable if you have a good soundtrack so here are my current faves.

Girls Chase Boys - Ingrid Michaelson
This song is so catchy, it's a real earworm. Ingrid's voice is so effortlessly cool, I'm excited to check out her other releases!

Amnesia EP- 5SOS
The Amnesia EP has just come out and it features a brand new song, Daylight, a cover of the Green Day classic, American Idiot and a special recording of Amnesia live at Wembley. Amnesia is simply stunning and always gives me goosebumps. I really like Daylight too and I really like what they did with American Idiot.

All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor
I've been listening to this song non-stop recently. It has everything an amazing song should have, a catchy chorus, witty lyrics, brilliant vocals, a great message and bags of sass!

Black Widow -  Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora
I love Iggy's raps especially in Fancy and Problem, she continues the streak of fab singles with Black Widow. Rita Ora sounds amazing too.

Bang Bang - Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj
This collaboration is a match made in heaven, Jessie and Ari's vocals are so tight and Nicki matches them with her rap. They have enough girl power to rival the Spice Girls, I really hope they do another collaboration!

Nervous Girls - Lucy Hale
This comes from the debut album from Pretty Little Liars star, Lucy Hale, and I'm pleased to confirm she's not just another actress who thinks she can sing! Lucy has an amazing country voice and I've been loving  her whole album recently but Nervous Girls is my favourite.

If I Was There - Hayley Solano
I came across Hayley's YouTube channel a few days ago and I'm hooked on all her covers. My favourite song on her channel is If I Was There (an original song), it's so heartfelt and soulful. I've fallen in love with her pure, beautiful voice. She is a very talented young singer songwriter so you should check out her stuff!

Forbidden Broadway
I've always loved Broadway musicals and I love the latest volume of Forbidden Broadway. I'm not sure how it came about or where it is playing, but the soundtrack is comedy gold! It parodies such musicals as Matilda, Les Mis and all the Juke Box Musicals. It pokes fun at people like Cameron Mackintosh and Idina Menzel. A must-listen for all Broadway fans!

I've been listening to Bang Bang, Nervous Girls and If I Was There on YouTube as their songs aren't available on Spotify UK right now.

See you soon!

Being Healthy

Hello!

I've been thinking a lot recently about whether I am a "healthy" person or not. I am not sick or ill in any way but I've been wondering whether I eat healthily enough or do enough exercise. This is something I've seen a lot around the internet whether it's "fitspiration" blogs or the "not caring" trend that some teens fall into. So I decided to write a blog about it! Before I start please note that this is only my opinion on this topic and by all means not the only opinion on this!

First let's talk about the different attitudes I've seen around the internet. There are many blogs around that promote healthy eating and exercise which I love. However I don't like it when there is a picture of a beautiful woman with a toned body and the caption is motivation. You should never compare yourself to anyone else, especially when it comes to body image. Everyone is different and some women will never achieve these trivial things like the dreaded "thigh gap"when it comes to being healthy, just focus on you and your own body!

The other side of the spectrum is those who pride themselves on not caring. They tweet about eating really unhealthily and never exercising. At the moment I'm closer to this attitude than the really healthy one. However it's still not a good thing to boast about being so unhealthy. It's fine to have those days where you only eat McDonalds but it shouldn't get to be a lifestyle. It's a matter of looking after your body and thinking about all the health problems that come with a diet of fatty foods.

My advice for finding a balance in all this is to think about how you fit into all this and adapt to your lifestyle, making little changes to improve it. Take me for an example, I do very little sport so I've made a point of  doing little exercises like squats or situps. It makes me feel good even if its just 20 a day. The only problem with this that I've found is that I do it everyday religiously then quit if I miss a day. I've learnt that keeping up a healthy lifestyle has to be flexible and a long term journey! I also try to snack less and substitute unhealthy snacks with tasty alternatives like fruit. Another important thing to remember is to make sure that you enjoy these steps to be healthy, for example I usually don't like to do heavy exercise like running so I find alternatives that I do enjoy. However I still eat unhealthy but delicious foods many times a week. In fact at the time of writing, I've just had a pizza from Dominoes! I am trying to cut down slowly but I try not to deny myself what I love (pizza and chocolate). It's a long and slow journey but hopefully it will be worth it! Another thing I've been doing is drinking lots and lots of water!

My goal is to be proud of my body and lifestyle, I don't compare myself to others and I don't worry myself with weight and dress sizes. Overall I strive to feel good in my own skin which is key to being confident and happy in life! I'm just starting to make changes to my lifestyle so I am in no way qualified to give advice about this sort of thing. I would recommend checking out Ingrid Nilsen's YouTube channel, MissGlamorazzi, for lot's of healthy recipes as well as awesome fashion and beauty videos! Also Zoella just put up a new video called Little Ways To Change Your Life that outlines some fab ways to live healthy!

Phew! That was such a long post, hope you liked it!

Autumn Bucket List

Hello!

Autumn officially begins on the 22nd of September so before it starts I thought I'd make an Autumn Bucket List! I made one for Summer here but I didn't really fulfill many of them! I hope I'll be able to get more of these ticked off as Autumn is my favourite month. So let's get started!

1. Try the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

2. Bake lots of Autumn treats such as Blackberry and Apple Pie and Banana Bread

3. Carve Pumpkins

4. Revamp my wardrobe with fluffy jumpers, hats and scarves

5. Go to a bonfire night

6. Read at least 10 books, including a classic

7. Go on a few walks with a camera

8. Buy some scented candles

9. Embrace the crisp weather and make the most of Autumn!

That's all for today! All the pictures are from Pinterest. Let me know what's on your list!

My Favourite School Films

Hello!

We've made it through the first week of school! I think we all deserve a film night this weekend so I thought I'd make a list of my favourite films set in schools.

Mean Girls

A classic teen movie, Mean Girls has proved to still be relevant 10 years on. Tina Fey's writing is so iconic that her gags are still being referenced all the time. It's also a throwback to when Lindsay Lohan was at the height of her career and features one of my favourite actresses Rachel McAdams as the formidable Regina George. Watch this for plenty of giggles and amazing one liners!

Clueless

One of the classic high school films, this film is very 90s! Cher is the privileged high school student who gives new student, Tai, a makeover to boost her popularity. I love this film because it's light and fluffy, perfect for girly nights in.

Grease

I grew up watching this and I know all the songs off by heart. I saw this on Broadway when I was younger and have loved it ever since. It follows Danny, Sandy and their friends as they embark on their senior year of high school. It's a great film for a sing song and makes you wish you lived in the 50s!

High School Musical

I couldn't make this list without including High School Musical. It was a massive part of my childhood and I think it sparked my love of musical theatre. People sniff at it but I think you should embrace your embarrassing past loves!

21 Jump Street

This isn't your typical school movie! It's about two young cops who go undercover in a high school to bust a new drug that is being circulated. The stars, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are the perfect duo and I was in fits of laughter all the way through. It passes the 6 laugh test with flying colours!

Dead Poets Society

A very different kind of film to the rest, this one is about a boarding school that gets a new English teacher (Robin Williams). He captures the student's imagination through poetry and they decide to restart the Dead Poets Society. I love this film, though it did make me cry for ages afterwards!

Perks of Being a Wallflower

I actually read the book before watching the film (the correct order!) and I loved both forms. It's about Charlie and his friends in his first year at high school. It's darker and more thoughtful than the other high school movies on this list. Emma Watson is wonderful in this and the film makes some important points about love and life.

That concludes the list for today, let me know your faves down in the comments!

Back To School Thoughts

Hello!

It's that time of the year again, it's time to go back to school! Depending on what sort of person you are, you could be jumping for joy or sobbing uncontrollably right now. Either way there are pros and cons to the first few weeks of school and I'm here to take you through them!

Bad Things About Going Back To School
(Let's get the bad stuff out of the way)

Uniform: You spend a whole summer with the freedom of being able to wear comfy and casual clothes everyday and suddenly you have to wear uniform 5 days a week. I'm so jealous of those who live in countries where uniform is not worn. I'm already counting down the days until our school's next mufti (non-uniform) day

Teachers: You get a whole new set of teachers who always appear a lot worse in the first few lessons. Every year I get at least 3 teachers who decide to terrify us with promises of whole class detentions and lots of homework. It's probably just a power thing but it always seems to work on us! The good thing is that usually wears off in a few monthes when they've learnt all of our names.

Homework: Gone are the peaceful evenings with nothing to do but sit on the sofa and watch films. This year is supposed to be even worse than last year on the homework front but as long as you don't put it off until the last minute, you should be fine!

Good Things About Going Back To School
(because a positive outlook makes it bearable)

Fresh Start: A whole new set of teachers, new exercise books and a chance to start fresh. This year will be the year when your handwriting improves, you always get homework done and your grades improve. Maybe, if not there's always next year!

New Stationary: This is my favourite thing about going back to school because in those first few weeks you are well prepared and nothing has been lost or broken!

No Tests: Unless you get really bad teachers, there is no reason why you should receive a test first thing back because you haven't actually learnt anything yet. If you do come across one, stay calm and collected because questioning it will only make your teacher angry.

Friends: You get to see your friends every single day and can go through all the tests and boring lessons together. You've also got a lot of catching up to do and can make your holidays seem exotic and exciting even if they weren't. For example you might have gone to Italy, tried the delicious Italian cuisine and heard lot's of beautiful live music even if in reality you ate pizza every night and accidentally walked into a karaoke night at the hotel you stayed in.

Let me know anything I missed down in the comments!

Style Crush - Taylor Swift

Hello!

My Kylie Jenner style post is one of my most popular posts and I really enjoyed writing it so I thought I'd do another "Style Crush" post for you today! I have been loving Taylor Swift's style recently, she always manages to look utterly gorgeous, so today we'll be looking at some of my favourite looks of hers.

Street Style

No ladies, I have no idea how she does it either! Whether she is just popping out to get some milk or going to lunch with her supermodel pals, Taylor Swift always looks flawless. The outfits above are so simple and chic that she often gets compared to Audrey Hepburn! I love her little black romper and her use of minimal accessories, just an adorable heart shaped bag and peep toe heels. For a more dressy look Taylor pairs a collared gingham dress with a red bag for a pop of colour. She opts for a classic but casual look in the last photo, with a blue button down shirt, black skinnies and that same heart shaped bag. I adore her street style, though I'm not sure I could pull it off as well as her!

Red Carpet

Taylor Swift doesn't just do chic casual looks, she also kills it on the red carpet! At the ACM Awards she rocks the crop top and skirt trend with a gorgeous monochrome look. I love the cut outs on the shoulders and her minimal gold jewellery. Taylor looks fierce at the People's Choice Awards in a plunging floor length gown which shows off her enviable figure. She also demonstrates how you don't need a frock to look great on a red carpet with a fun little blue jumpsuit and beautiful heels.

Hair and Beauty

What do these four pictures have in common? They all include Taylor's signature red lip and her gorgeous blonde bob. She keeps her makeup simple but timeless often with a smokey eye. Her bob looks great tousled or elegantly curled.

Here's an Taylor Swift inspired oufit that I put together on Polyvore!
